I am a ditherer. That might seem surprising for someone who appears to get a lot done, but I endlessly analyse decisions about the smallest details of a project. Sometimes the things I spend hours considering aren’t even visible in the finished piece. I make sketches, produce 3D CAD models, discuss things with friends, build […]

This year I plan to hang baubles....from everything. *heads off to buy more*

The attic is now fully renovated and in use as my new photography studio.

My new attic studio is so tantalisingly close to being finished that I haven't taken any food photos in the last couple of weeks. Whilst I carry on testing and tasting recipes here are some 'before' and 'after' shots from our journey to make this home feel loved again.

When you’re someone who’s into woodwork and construction type activities its natural to apply those things to your living environment. This means that people like me often choose to refurbish or build their own houses rather than pay someone else to do it. Makes perfect sense, right? Except this means that you actually spend most […]

Amidst the century old filth, flies and plaster dust, the attic project has turned up some interesting finds. I say interesting, its more crap in the attic than cash in the attic, but interesting nonetheless. I’ve always had a paranoia about uncovering a dead body during the refurbishment of this house, but now the final […]

This Weekend we have mostly been making things with Sugru. Things like these feet to hold the Wii thingamabob on top of the TV: …and this little gizmo to stop George’s iPod charger cable falling off his bedside table: I liked it so much that I made one for my iPhone too. The blue bit […]

Last year my efforts to make Christmas festive were a bit lacklustre as I documented in my post: ‘List for Christmas Future.’ I am working my way through my self improvements and so far I think I am doing pretty well for 2011. One of the things on my list involved making, or improving on a bought, […]

I read Sally’s post on My Custard Pie this morning and it reminded me of one by Katherine and Greg on Rufus’ Food and Spirits Guide. They both show a little glimpse into someone else’s kitchen and it made me want to show you inside ours too. BUT…this is going to be little vignettes of ‘things […]

Keen eyed readers may recall this post from a while back, which marked the beginning of a project to provide an alcove unit in our hybrid study/back sitting room. Now I’ve looked at the dates and realised its taken nearly 5 months to finish, I’ll add that to the pile of reasons why I don’t […]

As the years pass, I become increasingly particular about how I like certain things to be. Some call this fussy, but provided you can stay on the right side of becoming OCD I think it’s probably OK. Coffee is something I have some quite specific requirements on. I should say this is not in a kind […]

I had two projects in mind during this years extended Easter break; a treehouse for George that was promised but not delivered last summer and secondly growing a beard. One of these projects is lacking in structure, not adding any visual amenity to the surroundings and generally progressing haphazardly without direction; thankfully the treehouse went […]

Since we moved in the fire in the living room has mainly been held together with jubilee clips and hope. When the shaped fire bricks fell out of the back it was time to get it sorted properly. I took what was left of the cast iron fire grate to a local blacksmith to see if […]

We have a new bookcase. Hello bookcase, nice to meet you. You fit that space very well. I like the way you carry those books too, very fetching. Much better than them being all over the floor. I won’t have to hoover round them now. What’s that you say? Ed made you…in his workshop? Yes, […]
October 5, 2010
I finally got around to putting new covers on our dining chairs today. This is not a ‘how to’ post. It’s to remind me of Ed’s maxim that ‘it only get’s done if you do it.’ It only took a couple of hours and cost me the grand total of £7.50 So I am feeling […]
